National Volunteer Week Celebrations
Times have been tough for many Tasmanians over the past 12 months, but there has been a diverse and cheerful group of people spread throughout the State who have, and continue to, give of their time, skills and experience to benefit communities. Who are they? They are the 131,000 volunteers giving 18 million hours and during National Volunteer Week (11-17 May) celebrations were held across Tasmania to highlight the important role they have and to say thank you. Please click here for details of local events held.
Volunteering Tasmania recognises the essential role volunteers play and we are committed to increasing the awareness and value of volunteering amongst the general public as well as increasing political awareness of the importance of volunteering in terms of social need and economic value.

VT Response to Social Inclusion Strategy Paper
Volunteering Tasmania recently responded to the Consultation Paper prepared by DPAC’s Social Inclusion Unit, arguing that volunteering has a central role to play in any comprehensive approach to social inclusion in Tasmania. Our response made two key arguments: that volunteering is a key mechanism for preventing and remediating social exclusion; and that we must also be aware of the ways that Tasmanians are excluded from volunteering, and attend to those barriers.
