Increasing Choice in Home Care Submission

The Federal Government announced significant reforms to home care as part of the 2015-16 Budget.  Part of these reforms includes the introduction of consumer directed care (CDC) – designed to enable older people to make choices about their home care services.

Volunteering Tasmania recently provided feedback to the Department of Social Services on their “Increasing Choice in Home Care – Stage 1 Discussion Paper”. This submission provided comments on the introduction of CDC, the My Aged Care system and the consolidated CHSP. These changes are of importance to the volunteering sector.

This paper is a summary of the feedback provided to the Department.

Working with Children Checks Submission

We recently provided a submission to the Department of Justice on amendments to the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013.

We support measures to protect the reduced fee for volunteers needing a Working with Children Check.  However we have recommended that the Department offer a ‘grace’ period if any amendments are made to this legislation. VT knows that the Working with Children Checks have been a big change for many VIOs and volunteers. As such, we suggest that time is needed so that organisations and volunteers can adapt to any changes.

VT will continue to raise awareness amongst the volunteer sector about the Working with Children Checks and the legal requirements for VIOs and volunteers. We hope continued education will minimise risk of misusing volunteer registration fees.

You can read the submission here.
