Changes to the Volunteer Management Program deferred

Minister for Social Inclusion, Mark Butler yesterday announced that proposed changes to funding arrangements for the Volunteer Management Program (VMP) will be deferred. Read the statement released from his office yesterday on the matter.

Volunteer profile: Bernie the Blue-Tongued Lizard

Even lizards can be community-minded. Bernie the Blue-Tongued Lizard, who likes eating crickets and sunning himself on rocks, dropped in to the VT Burnie office recently to tell us about his volunteering work with Coastal Family Day Care’s Communities for Children program on the North West Coast. We don’t know how he got his drivers licence, but you can find Bernie and his van at family days, sporting events and events like Kids in the Park.

Australian Council of Social Services hails decision on Equal Pay Case

ACOSS has hailed last week’s decision by Fair Work Australia in the landmark equal pay case for community sector workers. “This is a milestone for equal pay and a crucial step towards ensuring viable, effective social services by requiring appropriate levels of pay for the staff we depend upon to deliver those services,” said ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie.

Safe Work Australia launches new WHS volunteer assistance package

Safe Work Australia has launched a new volunteer assistance package developed by Safe Work Australia in partnership with Volunteering Australia. The package includes a Volunteer Assistance Line, email and webpage designed to provide guidance and support to volunteers and volunteer organisations who may be affected by the new work health and safety (WHS) laws.

SOVR 2012 Literature Reviews
