Volunteering Tasmania is the State’s peak body on volunteering. Important aspects of that role include developing policies on volunteering issues, representing the volunteering sector to all levels of government, engaging in advocacy on behalf of the sector, and conducting community consultation and research.
A National Volunteering Strategy - the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) consults with the sector
FaHCSIA are developing a National Volunteer Strategy which will set out the Australian Government’s vision for volunteering over the next 10 years. The Strategy will be released in 2011 to coincide with the International Year of the Volunteer +10.The FaHCSIA consultation paper for this Strategy can be downloaded here.

Working with Children and Vulnerable People Screening
The Department of Health and Human Services recently sought comment on the establishment of a centralised system for checking those who work with children and other vulnerable people.
