Volunteering grants announced

Australian Government funding is now available for organisations to apply for grants between $1,000 and $5,000 to help with costs of volunteering.

To be eligible to apply, organisations must be Australian not-for-profit organisations whose volunteers support families and communities across Australia.

These funds can help to pay for costs of fuel, training, background security checks and transport for volunteers with disability who cannot drive. The funds can also be used to help with the expense of small equipment items like iPads and printers, helping organisations to keep pace with technology and ensure their volunteers have access to digital and electronic equipment.

Further information on how to apply for the funding is available at www.dss.gov.au/grants

Happy International Volunteer Managers Day! We have a gift for you…

Introducing our brand spanking new Value of volunteering calculator

This dual-purpose calculator is useful for both managers of volunteers, as well as individual volunteers.

The Organisational calculator

The organisational calculator gives a full cost benefit analysis of the value of a volunteer program.

This calculator considers the overall economic impact an organisation that involves volunteers has in the community.

If you are a manager of volunteers, this calculator will quickly give you evidence for use in:

  • Reporting
  • Funding applications and
  • Strategic planning

The calculator will also help you to ‘manage up’ and make a case for investment in volunteering.

The Individual calculator

The individual calculator calculates an average cost to an organisation to replace a volunteer position. This is based on the average cost of their age cohort based on the evidence in the State of Volunteering Report 2014.

It is a quick way for an individual to appreciate the economic contribution they bring to an organisation.

We hope you love it, and that it helps you in the execution of your role.
