Get Wild About Volunteering with The Wilderness Society!

Since the late 70’s and early 80’s the growth and success of the Wilderness Society Tasmania has been built on the passion and dedication of countless volunteers. Spurred by early founders such as Bob Brown, and Helen Gee it led the campaign to protect the Franklin River has gone on to  help people across Australia contribute to a movement for social and environmental justice.  Indeed, Tasmania is the heartland of the Wilderness Society and a core part of the environmental movement. We have no doubt in the power of people to create change, and this involves you!

The Wilderness Society continues to attract and provide an inclusive and welcoming work environment for new volunteers from all walks of life. We are committed to nurturing and involving those in particular who have an alignment to our organisational values of compassion, integrity and independence, passion for purpose, and commitment to success!

Our Hobart and Launceston campaign centres are run by a group of fantastic and dedicated volunteers and we are always looking for new people to join our teams.

We currently have a range of activities you can be involved with. In particular we are recruiting for a team leader or event coordinator to help drive and work with other volunteers who can help run our monthly Wild Flicks film night. This event aims to inspire, empower and engage people in current environmental issues and provide opportunities for more to join the movement and be involved in environmental protection.

Our first event will be screened at Wild Island Gallery in Salamanca Place on Wednesday 26th of August at 6pm. Coming along will be a perfect chance to see the result of volunteerism in action and be inspired to help us create more events like these.

If this looks like a project you can lead or support with commitment to completion, we want to hear from you!  Future events are expected to be screened on the last Wednesday of the month.

You’ll have fun, learn new skills, make friends, and do your bit to change the world. Even a few hours each week can make a huge difference.

Come along to our first event. RSVP via Facebook or Meet Up and if you’d like to volunteer to help with events like these please contact emma.wasson@wilderness.org.au directly with your CV and brief cover letter. You can find the volunteer position description here!
