Volunteering in Sport Report
The 2017 ‘Volunteering in Sport Report’ provides insights into how Tasmanian sporting organisations are supporting their volunteers.
Based on feedback from more than 230 Tasmanian sporting organisations, the Report outlines a number of key challenges including
- a high-reliance on a core-group of increasingly time-poor volunteers.
- more volunteers are needed, especially with the smaller sporting organisations
- support for recruiting and retaining volunteers
Whilst very good at rewarding and recognising volunteers, finding and keeping them was a key concern reported by most sporting organisations.
The Report acknowledges that these challenges are not unique to sport, and are similar to the experiences of other volunteer involving organisations across Tasmania.
To address these challenges, the Report recommends a focus on informing Tasmanian sporting organisations of changing volunteer and community expectations, the promotion of existing volunteer workforce planning resources and encouraging the sharing of best-practice volunteer management case-studies from within the Tasmanian sporting sector.
The 2017 ‘Volunteering in Sport Report’ has been supported by the Tasmanian Government through Communities, Sport and Recreation.
